CRASS to STAR ENGLISH (Conver’crass’sation to Conver’star’sation) is a coffee-table fun pocketbook designed to help correct common faulty usages in conversation by the average Nigerian speaker of English. It is part of ACHIEVING WELLNESS IN COMMUNICATION
(AWC) series which is designed to assist students, teachers and workers of all cadres,
including the executive who are particular about speaking ‘clean’ English, to improve their
handling of this age-long and important medium.
AWC contains information which is the result of the author’s interactions with students during a subsisting teaching experience in two tertiary institutions (Federal and Private)
spanning well upwards of a decade. The amount of information shared in this pocketbook is what the author considers adequate to stir up sufficient interest and quest to learn more about the nuances of the English language.
As some people posit, when you have information to convey to people, it is more like putting
on the washing machine because you have loads of laundry to do. However, you are sensible
enough to know that if you cram all your dresses into the machine, they won’t get immersed
in water. You therefore control the number of dresses you put in, making you do your washing
in batches so that it is done properly. The same applies to wanting to share information with
people. You must decide on the amount to communicate to ensure that you do not overstuff
because you want everything to be covered properly. This is what has informed the type of
coverage done in CRASS to STAR ENGLISH.
On no account, therefore, must CRASS to STAR ENGLISH be viewed as a textbook because it is neither one nor intended to be a substitute for any. Rather, it is a pocketbook which users will find extremely convenient to carry around and find equally useful to make quick reference.
