Evans Cultural & Creative Arts for JSS 1


Evans Cultural and Creative Arts for Junior Secondary Schools Books 1-3 are written in line with the new Basic Education Curriculum (NERDC) in compliance with the Federal Government’s demands to attain the objectives and aims of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGS), to meet the targets of the National Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (NEEDS), and to speed up the implementation of other national policies for self-reliance, entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

The series, which is specially written by seasoned authors to equip students with the practical knowledge and skills essential to the learning of Cultural and Creative Arts at the secondary school level, has the following outstanding features:

  • Combination of the various aspects of arts such as drama, music, dance, and the visual arts including crafts
  • Designed with colourful illustrations and real pictures of actual events to make it more interesting and visually appealling
  • Activities to reinforce the practical aspects of the subject and exercises for self-assessment of what the students have learnt are included at the end of each chapter.
  • Teacher’s Guides are provided for the series to assist teachers in preparing their lesson notes and to improve the effectiveness of their teaching strategies.
  • Each book in the series is accompanied with a workbook to assist the teacher assess how far the students have learnt what has been taught at the end of each chapter.
  • Provision of numerous exciting cultural and creative art experiences aimed at helping the students to identify and acquaint themselves with cultural and creative arts practices and experiences.

It is hoped that when these books are properly utilised, the aim of the aforementioned national policies for self-reliance, entrepreneurship and sustainable development will be realised, and the general objectives of Cultural and Creative Arts as stated in the New NERDC Curriculum will be achieved.
